My sister often complimented my depiction of water. So one summer I decided to dedicate a large canvas to the water of the Willamette River. Raising the horizon to the upper quarter gave me the composition. The entire canvas was done plein air from the upper deck of "Victory". One afternoon Kathy came by with the news of her medical diagnosis. I told her that I was going to paint her into this scene in the Kayak, so she got in the kayak and enthusiastically paddled out across the river. I excluded all other people from the painting to focus on her solitude in dealing with her diagnosis. She is doing fine now.

Look at the size of that thing!  I made an actual size Pigment Print of this painting on canvas. It's huge if you want a big painting of Portland waters.
